RGB Color Chart: The Complete Color Table with HEX and RGB Codes

If you’ve ever tried to describe a color to a computer, you’ve met RGB. In fact, every color on every screen — your website, your phone, your TV — is mixed from just three ingredients: Red, Green, and Blue. Specifically, each ingredient gets a number from 0 to 255. For example, turn all three off and you get black (0, 0, 0). Similarly, turn all three all the way up and you get white (255, 255, 255). Mix them in different amounts and, as a result, you can make 256 × 256 × 256 = 16,777,216 possible colors.

Designers and developers usually write the same color two ways: RGB code — the three numbers, like (11, 99, 206); HEX code — the same numbers in a compact web format, like #0B63CE. In other words, they’re two spellings of one color. Finally, the chart below lists the 139 named colors every browser knows, with both codes side by side. So bookmark this page — if you work on websites at all, you’ll be back.

How to use this chart

First, find the color you want, copy its HEX code, and paste it anywhere you’re building: your website’s customizer or Elementor color settings, a CSS file (color: #0B63CE; or color: rgb(11, 99, 206);), Canva, Photoshop, or any design tool. Then, press Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F on a Mac) to jump straight to a color name.

A real example: the colors of this website

My own brand palette, in both spellings: Signature Blue — #0B63CE — (11, 99, 206) · Deep Navy — #0A3556 — (10, 53, 86) · Bright Green — #10B981 — (16, 185, 129) · Deep Green — #0B7A55 — (11, 122, 85) · Light Background — #F2F8FC — (242, 248, 252). In short, two or three well-chosen colors, used consistently, beat a rainbow every time — that’s what makes a site look like one business instead of twelve.

A designer’s three rules for picking colors

  1. First, contrast is not optional. Light text on a light background can’t be read — and failing contrast is the most common accessibility mistake I fix on existing websites. Dark text on light colors (or the reverse) keeps everyone able to read you, including visitors with low vision.
  2. Second, screens are RGB; print is not. Colors that glow on a monitor are mixed from light. Ink works differently (CMYK), so a color can look slightly different printed. If a color has to match exactly — a logo on a business card — ask for a print proof.
  3. Third, limit your palette. Pick one primary color, one accent, and your neutrals. If everything is loud, nothing stands out — especially your call-to-action buttons.

Quick answers

What does RGB stand for? Red, Green, Blue — the three colors of light every screen mixes to make every other color.

What’s the difference between HEX and RGB codes? In short, nothing but spelling. For example, #FF0000 and (255, 0, 0) are the exact same red. HEX is just the shorthand websites use most.

Can I use these color names in CSS? Yes — in fact, the named colors in this chart are built into every browser, so color: steelblue; works as-is. For brand colors, use the HEX code instead so the color is exact everywhere.
